SPLIT MOBILITY WEDGE IS BACK IN STOCK
Here’s another one: can you lift your big toe without it drifting toward the center of your foot? (Go ahead and try it right now.)
If you struggled with any of these, you're in luck! We're here to teach you about a small but mighty muscle in your foot:the abductor hallucis.
Most people have never heard of this muscle, let alone realized how important it is for pain-free movement.
The abductor hallucis runs along the inside of your foot, from your heel to your big toe. It may be small, but its role in your foot health is huge.
Arch Support: One of your foot’s main arch supporters. When weak, your arch collapses inward, leading to overpronation and issues in your legs and back.
Big Toe Stability: Keeps your big toe centered and strong for proper push-off when walking or running. Weakness here often contributes to bunions and “toe drift.”
Foundation for Everything Above: Your feet are your base. If this muscle isn’t firing, compensations can ripple into your ankles, knees, hips, and even your lower back.
Injury Prevention: A stronger abductor hallucis can help prevent plantar fasciitis, shin splints, knee pain, and hip dysfunction by improving foot movement.
Our lifestyles don’t do this muscle any favors. Hours of sitting, narrow shoes, or even constantly wearing socks can limit how well it activates. Over time, the abductor hallucis weakens or even atrophies.
The good news? Like any muscle, you can train it.
Toe Abduction Drill (Check it out on YouTube)
Sit with your feet flat on the floor.
Spread your big toe away from the others while keeping all toes grounded.
Hold for 5 seconds.
Repeat 10 times.
Over time, progress to harder and more explosive exercises to help this little muscle reach its full potential. Want to do a deep dive on this? Our head trainer's Hali + Calum are here for you!Click here to work with them.
It’s easy to overlook the abductor hallucis, and your feet in general, but once you start training it, you may notice improvements not just in your feet, but throughout your entire body.
